Essay Writing The Smart Way

There are certain things that, as you go through school, you NEED to know how to do. 
eg.  In maths, its multiplication tables. 
In written subjects, one thing that is crucial is that you be able to write a professional essay.  
As you go on through college, every essay you’ll write - and there will be a LOT of them - follows the paragraph format.   Nearly all work-related papers (letters, business reports, cover letters, etc.) also follow the essay pattern.

Now, many of you may be saying “Oh yeah - I know how to write an essay. No problem.” It is true that many of you are good writers and can pull off a solid essay. However, very few of you have mastered the professional way of setting one out.

So, pay attention to the Smart Way of Essay Writing below - we’ll use it often in ESK and you’ll use it frequently in the future as well.


The Smart Way Of Essay Writing

“The Bottom Bun” Conclusion
In conclusion...
State what you have learnt about the topic, making sure you do not add any new information. 
End with a punchy finish to show your reader that you are a master of the topic.  

Common Mistakes in Formal Essay Writing

1.  Do not use “I” statements in your paper.
2.  No AIM writing (LOL, JK!, etc.)
3.  No swearing
4.  No slang (“You know what I mean?, etc...) 
6.  Do not add anything new to your conclusion.
